Contract Review

Contract review typically takes hours. Launch Praktik directly in Word, select the document type, and within a minute see which terms are acceptable and which require attention.

Open the Praktik Word add-in. At the bottom of the panel, click Actions, then select Review.

After clicking Review, you’ll see a list of available review groups. There are three categories:

All — Complete list of system and custom reviews available in your organization.

System — Predefined reviews created by Praktik. Ready to use for common contract types — NDAs, CLAs, DPAs, freelance agreements, and more.

Custom — Reviews created by members of your organization. Tailored to specific client requirements or internal office standards.

Each review group displays:

  • Name and brief description
  • Type (System / Custom)
  • Number of reviews it contains
  • Author (for custom reviews)

Search works by review group name — type the first letters and the list narrows down.

Click on a review group to see the exact list of all reviews that will be performed. Each review is expandable — you’ll see the name and what exactly will be verified.

In the upper right corner is the Run button (play icon). Click it and the review begins.

Before starting the review, the system will ask you to select which party in the contract you represent.

Review results may differ based on perspective — some terms are favorable to one party and disadvantageous to the other. Selecting the party ensures you only get alerts on points relevant to your position.

The review runs in real time. You’ll see:

  • Progress bar — Current processing status (e.g., 2 / 5 reviews, 40%)
  • Currently running — List of reviews currently being performed
  • Completed reviews — Reviews that have been evaluated, marked with a green checkmark

Processing most contracts takes less than a minute. It depends on the document length and number of reviews.

When processing is complete, you’ll see a list of all reviews with results:

✓ Green checkmark — Condition met. The document contains the required clause or meets the criteria.

⊗ Orange cross — Condition not met or warning. The initial position is not in the document, a fallback was found, or the system detected an unacceptable term.

Each line is clickable — open the review detail.

Click on a specific review to see:

What was verified — Exact text of the condition the system searched for.

Review result — Whether the initial position was met, which fallback was accepted, or whether unacceptable terms were found.

Document references — Links to specific sections of the document where the result can be verified. Click and Praktik highlights the text directly in Word.

Explanation — Why the review passed or failed, with context that helps understand whether it’s a critical issue or just a deviation from ideal wording.

For reviews that failed, the system generates specific suggestions on how to modify the document.

Click on a review with an orange cross and besides the reasoning, you’ll see a Suggestion section. It contains:

Modification name — What exactly is proposed to be added or changed.

Explanation — Why the modification is needed and what it ensures.

Insert after — Exact text to be inserted into the document, including information on where it will be inserted (after which existing text).

Click Apply modification and Praktik inserts the suggested text directly into the Word document. The modification appears as a tracked change — you see what was added and can still edit or confirm it.

Apply all — If multiple reviews have suggested modifications, you can apply all at once. The button shows the number of available suggestions (e.g., “Apply all (2)”).

Done — Closes the suggestions panel and returns you to the results list.

Each review has three parts:

1. Initial position — What you exactly require in the contract. If met, the review passes without warnings.

2. Fallbacks — Acceptable alternatives. If the initial position is not met, the system searches for the first suitable fallback. When found, the review passes but is marked with a warning — it’s not ideal wording, but it’s acceptable.

3. Unacceptable terms — Criteria that must not be in the contract under any circumstances. Always checked, even if the initial position or one of the fallbacks is met.

The review detail shows exactly which part was evaluated and why.

You create and edit review rules in the Praktik web interface. In the Word add-in, you only select and run them.

Predefined reviews — Use directly, without configuration needed.

Editing existing reviews — Select a system review, customize the terms, and save it as your own version.

Creating custom reviews — Define initial positions, fallbacks, and unacceptable terms manually. Or upload your template document and the system generates reviews automatically.

All reviews created in your organization are automatically available to all team members.

Details on creating and managing reviews can be found in the Contract Review documentation.
